End table becomes inspiration piece

I went yardsaling a few weeks ago, and I saw this table for $5.00! Really, $5.00? But I knew we had no need for an end table. So I passed over it, and went on to another yardsale a few minutes away. But I kept thinking about that $5.00 table! I decided that I could go back (an hour later) and if it was still there, it was destiny – we were meant to be together. Lo and behold…she was still there! I snagged her and was so happy that I did – I knew I would have been kicking myself for that later!

Isn’t she pretty? She’s real wood, and besides some scratches on her drawer, she was really in perfect condition. But I had higher hopes for her! I would not just let her remain plain and ordinary, but I wanted her to really strut her stuff!

Just so you understand why I ended up with the final product, I wanted to let you know about a great link I was reading on the Nesting Place blog about slowly making over your space on a budget. JUST what I needed to read! I found some inspirational pictures online, and I decided that I wanted my living room colors to be creams, dark brown wood, and sage green. Here’s some pictures that might help with the color scheme I’m leaning towards:

So I decided that this little table would serve as my “inspiration color” table. I wanted to somehow incorporate all of my desired living room colors into this little table.

I primed the table, the painted it with leftover paint from our nightstand re-do. (seriously…this is the never-ending paint can…and I love it!) I decided to keep with the color theme, that I would leave the top stained wood. Everything else in the room is dark stained wood, so I thought it would help to match the colors into the rest of the room.

I then got a little more daring than usual. I took out the drawer, measured, and cut some very cute scrapbook paper. I then mod-podged it onto the face of the drawer

Ah-HA! Sage green! I then mixed some clear glaze with some white paint, and gave the whole table a coat to make it more uniform. Once that dried, I added some hardware from Lowes…and here she is in all of her glory!

She’s soooo showing off her legs in these photos 😉 Don’t you love them?!

I really love the muted sage green details…

I just wanted to show her off right away, so it’s nighttime, and I don’t have good lighting, but I don’t care! I’ll make sure to show her off again once I figure out a nice pretty arrangement for her top, and it’s in the middle of the day :)

Before I go, I just wanted to thank you all for your sweet comments! I seriously get SO excited when I see that I have another comment…they truly make my day! Hope you all had a great Monday :)
